PARAMARIBO - After fuel and cooking gas, the electricity tariffs will also be increased. This will, however, not be as drastic as in the case of fuel. EBS wants a drastic increase but the government disagrees. That there will an increase has, however, been determined already. According to the draft budget of the Ministry of Natural Resources (NH), the increase will take place in phases. NH-Minister Gregory Rusland tells journalists that the government is still studying the tariffs as proposed by the EBS. While the guarantees that enable EBS to supply electricity have to be considered, as many options as possible should be studied so that the community is not put too much pressure on while the need for financing of the EBS is also met. DWT has learned that EBS acting manager Oemar Chiragally wants to increase the electricity tariffs as of 15 October. Rumor has it that the adjustment lies between 40 and 50%. In August, the EBS had already raised the fixed tariffs. In case of adjustment of the electricity tariffs, the government first has to give its approval though. |
